Abstract
- The article informs about the extensive use of computer software in the civil nuclear industry. Software failures occur due to flaws in designing during the software development phase. It reveals that software used in safety critical systems are against the guidelines of Great Britain's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate. It discusses the theoretical and practical aspects of various standards of safety critical software. The prediction regarding the software are not considered worthwhile as they are incapable of demonstrating right failure rates and flaw density. It is suggested not to depend on Safety Integrity Levels, rather, attempts should be made to avoid erroneous data values.
