Abstract

The article presents information on the automated instruments used for immunoassay in Great Britain. In the early days, cost and unreliability contributed to the limited use of such instruments. At that time, commercial systems were semi-automated which helped in automation of repetitive steps. Fully automated systems were developed in 1994. New technological innovations made it possible to control various immunoassay steps so that shorter incubation times and smaller sample volumes can be used.
