Abstract
- The article discusses the dual system of family income support in operation in the Republic of Ireland, particularly the tax allowances for dependent children and monthly cash payments called Children's Allowances. The system of Children's Allowances provides a weekly allowance for third and subsequent children, to all parents irrespective of income. Trends in the value of the tax allowances for dependent children and Children's Allowance payments are mentioned. A chart is presented that summarizes the features of the schemes and the consequent changes in the income support low income families.
