Abstract

The article profiles Louis Agassiz, a great scientist and one of the "founding fathers" of the modern American scientific tradition. With the pets he gathered, he began an insight into ichthyology which brought him fame with the learned of both Europe and America. He pursued his scientific studies to give himself a satisfaction. He published his first work about the description of Brazilian fishes which had been carried to Europe by two exploring naturalists.
