The article reports on the life and work of Louis Agassiz, a professor who introduced the laboratory method into American education. Today, this method is the only one considered to be satisfactory and justifiable. Since the beginning of his life in America, Agassiz took a strong interest in the elementary and secondary schools as well as in the universities. He gave new meaning to the word teacher by introducing a great scale of improved methods of teaching science.
