Cultivating Possibilities: Prospective Department Chair Professional Development and Why It Matters.

The article presents information on the succession planning for the position of department chair in the universities and colleges in the United States. According to the authors, the background and training of the faculty is not helping for such an important management role of this intentional professional development. Though majority of decisions and educational planning in higher education are taken at the departmental level, academic departments spend little time to select their leaders. The faculties hardly spend time to prepare them for their duties. Most of such selections are taken without any proper planning.
