Closing remarks: Swimming to the horizon-reflections on a special series.

The article examines the lessons that can be learned from the papers presented in the horizons of addiction treatment series of the "Addiction" journal. Three issues which have been elucidated on were: the effectiveness of addiction treatment and how it can be made better; the optimal policy environment for addiction treatment systems; and the role of science in addiction treatment.
