Abstract
- The article focuses on misread signals in art. Filmmaker Theo van Gogh was shot to death by Muslim immigrant Mohammed Bouyeri due to van Gogh's film "Submission: Part I" which featured verses from the Koran written on a naked woman. It has been criticized that the strategy used by van Gogh had been lifted from artist Shirin Neshat. Misread signals in art can be traced in immigrant history as artists in the U.S. have had the means and the audience to announce news from their homelands.
