Abstract

The article describes the "Woman Eating" sculpture of artist Duane Hanson. The sculpture is made of polyvinyl resins and fiberglass, synthetic materials that imitate the translucence of human skin. It depicts an overweight, middle-aged woman sitting at a restaurant table, eating ice cream sundae. The sculpture exemplifies the issues of modern U.S. class, obesity and consumerism.
