Abstract

The article suggests five perspectives on ethnic relations in the United States. The American population has become more culturally and ethnically diverse in the 21st century than in any other period in history. This is due to changes in government immigration policies and radical transformations in global developments. The author cites that American should adhere to one of the five perspectives: Eurocentrism, Melting Pot Assimilationism, Ethnic Nationalism, Globalism or Centered Pluralism. Eurocentrism is the vision that America is defined as predominantly northern and western European in its culture and institutions.
