Abstract
- The article offers news briefs on issues related to higher education. A total of $2.1-billion in government grants will be received by colleges and universities in Australia in 1984 based on spending guidelines issued by Susan Ryan, minister for education and youth affairs. George Baldwin, academic vice-president of University of Alberta in Edmonton, said that students who are applying for admission in the institution need to pass a writing test before they are accepted. 25 faculty and staff members were laid off by the Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia following the decision of the local government to freeze the 1983-184 operating grants for universities at 1982-1983 levels.
