Abstract

The article discusses the relationship of man to his environment in the context of science and technology. Soil, air, water, and freedom are full of emotional content because of their association with biological and mental needs of man. However, scientific knowledge on environmental management has less contribution to health and happiness if it does not take into account the human values. Man can invent devices and techniques to minimize the effects of environmental pollutants but he cannot protect himself against everything. He is capable of adapting that he learns to tolerate many shortages and environmental insults, but medical and social experience shows that these tolerances are paid in the form of low quality of life.
