Abstract

The article reports on the decision made by the U.S. and South Africa and its neighbors in the Southern Africa Customs Union to put its talks on free trade negotiations due to speculation that the Bush administration had given up on an agreement there. Meanwhile, the Southern African Development Community (SACU), is planning trade talks with China and India, while SACU wants in addition to extend its negotiations directly with these two countries for a preferential trade agreement.
