Abstract

This article presents information on the care of infants and toddlers that was published in the journal "Young Children." It mentions that this period is important for children's social and emotional development. According to a report by the United States National Research Council, children are born wired for feelings and they are ready to learn. Therefore in their first months and years they try to build self-control, persistence, curiosity, caring and a sense of confidence from the comfort, reassurance and gentle stimulation that they experience through relationships with families and caregivers. These are their right and more over the precursors for emotional intelligence, empathy, ingenuity, conflict resolution, teamwork and the ability to get along with others, which enable children to succeed in school and in life.
