Abstract

The article reports on the emergence of intercollegiate rowing as womens' sports in the U.S. with at least 60 campuses having teams. Rowing's rising popularity in the campuses has affected the sport as a whole. It is estimated that about half of the women on the U.S. Olympic crew in 1976 came form college campuses. With this, budgets are rising along with the need of full=time coaches who would train rowers. Training for women rowers are identical with men, with some minor modifications.
