Abstract

The article discusses the action research program aimed at improving the mathematics teaching in the member schools of the Central New York Study Council. The meanings and understandings important to the teaching of mathematics are identified. Also, methods for teaching specific meanings and understandings toward mathematics are developed. The teachers also developed test items for measuring the progress of mathematical teaching.
