Abstract

The article discusses the student opinion survey in chemistry (SOSC), an instrument designed to gather cross-national data in Australia. SOSC is developed as part of the evaluation program for the Inter-disciplinary Approach to Chemistry. It differs to other instruments because it could be used in other countries, allowing some direct comparisons of student attainment. In this article, a study was described wherein SOSC of slight modified version was administered to first-year high school chemistry students. The result showed that SOSC is a worthy candidate if researchers are seeking an instrument to assess student attitudes to chemistry.
