Abstract

The author reflects on the value of a long-term research for students in the U.S. He believes that it is important that one needs to focus on one are and research it from every angle. He comments that in natural sciences, a single discovery or invention could bring fame and fortune to a researcher, however, it is not enough to provide a stable foundation for future work. He suggests that students should develop a long-term research program and be willing to adapt one's position and be open-minded to something.
