Abstract

The article examines the two detracting statements against the United Nations (UN). Detractors criticize that UN has managed to do little worthwhile in its role as a world parliament or mediating body and that it is so ineffective in guaranteeing collective security arrangements, serving only to obscure the insecure reality of the conflicts of the cold war. On the other hand, the assembly has faced political problems such as disarmament and the suspension of nuclear testing, the manifold issues of colonialism, the potentially disruptive admission of the People's Republic of China, and the strengthening of the UN's own internal structure.
