Abstract

The article comments on the article "The Acquisition of Biological Knowledge During Childhood: Cognitive Conflict or Tabula Rasa?," by A. E. Lawson. It is said that Lawson was wrong in his claimed that very little work has been done in the biological sciences in terms of research into children's concepts. It is because based on an extensive search of literature, there are about 103 studies that focused on children's concepts in the life sciences. Lawson's view that children are either naive biological theorists or tabula rasas is also said to be an artificial and misleading dichotomy. It is because in one article on children's science, authors have argued convincingly against the tabula rasa assumption.
