Abstract

The article presents a note regarding the possible scientific value of further nuclear explosions, presented to the Academy of Sciences at the meeting of January 11, 1960. It investigates if explosions of the same types could provide supplementary information, which could contribute to the solution of various scientific problems. Investigations revealed that nuclear explosions in their usual form does not seem to have sufficient value from the point of view of fundamental research in the fields of physics, biology, and chemistry. Further nuclear explosions in the atmosphere at low or medium altitudes will doubtless contribute nothing to the progress of science.
