Abstract

The article explores the economic status of several nations ten years after World War II. It is inferred that the war has significantly reduced world production of food. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, although the world population has increased by 10 percent, food supply in 1946 to 1947 was four percent below the prewar average. Industrial production was slightly above the prewar level because U.S. production had increased tremendously in early years of the war. By 1949, global food production was back to prewar level and caught up with the population by 1952. Industrial production reached prewar level in 1948 and surpassed the prewar level per head in 1949.
