Abstract
- The article features William Morris, one of the most celebrated designers of wallpaper in the 19th century. He promoted an early green movement and opposed the environmental degradation in England caused by the Industrial Revolution. On the other hand, his father set up the mining company that produced the greatest amount of arsenic in the world. The pollution produced by the company, of which Morris was a director, continue to exists until today. In 1885, the medical profession and the popular press expressed concerns about wallpaper capable of poisoning its buyers. Morris dismissed their concerns.
