Abstract
- The article comments on the research paper "The Politics of Ritual: The Emergence of Classic Maya Rulers," by Lisa J. Lucero, which emphasizes the essence of Maya rulership that enjoins features of political economy, behavioral archaeology, and practice theory. According to the author, the Maya leaders repeated and extended contemporary rituals to justify their authority without replacing or restricting them.
