Abstract
- The article discusses the economic perspective in the conservation against development versus conservation for development debate. The economics approach to nature conservation is based on the principle of consumer sovereignity. People's preferences are used as the foundation for value and decision making. The significance of integrated human-environment perspectives have already been illustrated by the emergence of ecological economics with its emphasis on the significance of natural capital as a precondition for societal development.
