Abstract

The article presents the speech by R. Bruce Lindsay, an Acoustical Society of America member, at the National Association for Research in Science Teaching Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 7, 1970. He discusses the teaching of science as an integral part of the culture to all who pass through the educational system. He stated that the departmentalized teaching of science on both secondary schools and colleges is unsatisfactory for the general student. He stated that the most important element in science is understanding. By that, the invention of theories representing the urge of the human mind can call an explanation of the regularities found in their experience.
