The challenges of supporting heterogeneous storage include the rapid expanding of the industry with many competing technologies, the emergence of new storage protocols, and the varying approaches to storage files systems. Nonetheless, the storage industry is slowly progressing toward a unified storage management as storage resource management and storage area network management converge.
