Abstract

The article attempts to show the development of the historical and philosophic dimensions of the study of sport. The historical treatment of sport attempts to look at the development of sporting activity. The philosophical treatment of sport looks at the purpose and essence of the activity. The author references various books on the history or philosophy of sport, including "Sports and Pastimes of the People of England," by Joseph Strutt, and "The Importance of Physical Education," by John C. Warren.
