Abstract

The article discusses transient insertion of calcium-permeable AMPA receptors after LTP induction. A vital mechanism that underlie the initial expression of many forms of LTP is the insertion of an AMPA-type glutamate receptors (AMPARs) at synapses. For a short period after LTP is triggered, calcium-permeable AMPARs appear in the synaptic membrane. These receptors are required for solidifying and maintaining the increase in synaptic strength.
