Abstract

The article investigates on how to build a wind tunnel that achieves supersonic speeds with a vacuum system. The purpose of such tunnel is to provide a means of simulating the patterns made by the flow of air around an object moving faster than the speed of sound. A tunnel usually has five main elements: (1) a chamber in which the model undergoing tests is supported, (2) a device for accelerating the entering airstream, (3) a device for suppressing turbulence in the airstream, (4) a duct for disposing of turbulence downstream from the model, (5) one or more instruments for observing the behavior of the airstream.
