Abstract

The article presents information about the northern cities of England: Liverpool, Leeds, and Newcastle. Liverpool played a key role in the great slaving triangle across the Atlantic, with ships taking goods to Africa, slaves to America and cotton, sugar and tobacco back to England. The origin of Leeds dates back to medieval times when monks traded wool from nearby Kirkstall Abbey, now ruinous. Newcastle is named after the New Castle, built in 1080 by William the Conqueror's eldest son, Robert Curthose.
