Abstract

The article looks at advanced techniques for mastering digital audio. Not to be confused with file compression, audio compression is the process where the sound's dynamics are pressed together, effectively making it louder. Compressing audio requires normalization, a process applied to a sound file that increases its volume as loud as possible before distortion.
