Abstract

This paper offers an account of the development of a project entitled `Educational Objectives in Applied Science' at the Universities of Strathclyde and Heriot-Watt. The first part focuses on the project's choice of style and approach to the replanning of engineering courses within an established system. Although every such project faces unique hazards, some issues are common to any activity which aims to influence teaching and learning within universities. The second part of the paper examines how course development might best be encouraged within science and engineering faculties. It points to some of the resulting problems and to ways of overcoming them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
