Abstract
- The article presents information on the use of drill-type exercises as a part of every beginning lesson in the teaching of English as a second language to help build in right practice and prevent the student from practicing mistakes. The way oral drill helps in avoid wrong practice this type of writing helps the students in the same way. In this type of writing the students abstract from the exercise itself the model or models which they need and in this way are prevented from practicing mistakes. These types of writing exercises which serve as written drill are sometimes called imitative or controlled writing. Preparing this kind of writing assignments require time and thought for teachers. Teachers can use the time they spend in correcting for preparing the writing exercises, since the students correct their own papers. Deceptively simple looking exercises this type of writing are not easy for beginning students regardless of age and academic background in their own language test.
