Abstract

The article focuses on the strategies for preventing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection among African-American and Hispanic-American adolescents. Based on social learning theory, the authors describe culturally sensitive interventions. These interventions combine elements of cognitive-behavioral skills for problem solving, interpersonal communication, and coping with elements of HIV facts and ethnic pride. Furthermore, the paper also discusses the strengths and limitations of skills intervention for the prevention of AIDS.
