Abstract

The article focuses on systematic analysis and research about the personal qualities of the teacher and educational policy in Great Britain. The essential themes which emerge from the research are that there is a significant proportion of poorly trained teachers within the schools and that the personal qualities of teachers are a decisive factor in accounting for their effectiveness. The personal qualities of teachers are a salient factor which shape good teaching. Moreover, the research undertaken by academic educationists shows that any attempt to legislate on the personal qualities of teachers is fraught with difficulties and must be treated with extreme circumspection.
