Abstract

This paper presents the results of five commercial-scale processing trials, designed to investigate the effect of dense 'Jumbo'-baling of burry Australian combing wools on their subsequent topmaking performance. From measurements of top properties and an analysis of product yields, it is concluded that, provided that the bales are adequately heated prior to being opened, the difference in processing performance between Jumbo-baled and conventionally baled wool is so small as to be commercially insignificant.
