Abstract

The article focuses on the upcoming Enron trial in Houston, Texas. If convicted, former Enron CEOs Ken Lay and Jeffrey Skilling could spend the rest of their lives behind bars. The investigation has been the most exhaustive example of a corporate crime scene ever conducted. Enron has come to represent everything that went wrong in corporate America. The verdict will send a clear message about the accountability, or lack thereof, of those at the top of the company. For Lay and Skilling, there is more at stake than guilt or innocence. They are seeking not just acquittal but public redemption. In the end, the story is about betrayal.
