Abstract
- This article provides an overview of the coverage of sociological work and issues in the print media in Great Britain. Last year the British Sociological Association (BSA) undertook a brief research project about the media coverage of sociology in Great Britain. As part of that survey it also considered coverage of the BSA. The Executive Committee of the BSA commissioned the survey in the year 2004. While there are many ways of engaging with potential audiences for sociological work, and many forms of media, print media continue to be widely read and cited in the country. Print media also interconnects with radio and television, and each form of media constantly reviewing items in each other's format. This allows issues or stories to develop across various forms of media. Developing work with the media is prioritised because relations with the media are crucial to the reputation of the association. Sociological research can offer the press some novelty value. The research has already resulted in a rethinking of the association's media relations.
