Abstract
- The article presents information on the Fed Micro 1993 conference that was held from August 31-September 2, 1993 in Washington D.C. The conference included how to make desktop CDs, the importance of labeling and packaging, and encrypting sensitive information which can apply to industry and business. CD-R is a new technology that allows individuals, corporations, publishers, and government agencies to produce a CD- ROM without mastering costs and the turnaround time normally required in CD-ROM production. According to Dataware Technologies, a CD-R disc with appropriate preparation software and hardware is fully compatible with any CD-R drive and can be produced at the desktop. The technology can employ a CD-R drive attached to a PC-based workstation and blank media-or use a CD-recorder without a PC. CD recorders have created a new CD-ROM industry of one-off, short run, and prototype discs. The CD-Maker from Alea/Knowledge Access drives a CD recorder without a PC. The CD-Maker features a front panel membrane keyboard with one-key mnemonic input of all commands.
