Abstract

Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, was a man of many parts: scion of aristocratic society, ambitious politician, public servant, and social reformer, and another part intellectual, naturalist, sportsman, and writer. Roosevelt became such a popular political figure that he was known either by his initials TR or by the more familiar appellation, Teddy. Roosevelt was born into an affluent Dutch-American family from New York City, and his major influence during his formative years was father, Theodore, and to a somewhat lesser extent his mother, Mittie, who originated from Georgia and was sister to prominent former Confederates, James and Irvine Bulloch.
