Abstract
- This article discusses court decisions and legislative provisions governing textbooks and curriculum of schools in the U.S. Subject to constitutional limitations, the power of adoption and control of textbooks is vested solely in the legislature. It may provide for a uniform series of textbooks which must be used, to the exclusion of all others, in all districts of the state except those definitely excepted, and may, without creating a monopoly, grant the exclusive right of furnishing such books to a person, firm, or corporation. The authors suggest that the terms of the statutes must be strictly complied with by adopting authorities and those dealing with school officials must take notice of the authority conferred upon them by law.
