Abstract

The article comments on the product-liability case against the tobacco industry in the U.S. in 1988. The family of a certain carpenter named Nathan H. Horton filed a lawsuit against American Brands Inc. Horton was black and he smoked two packs of the company's Pall Mall cigarette product for over 30 years until his death from lung cancer. The potential landmark suit, however, ended in a mistrial and an investigation.
