Abstract

This article features the Technical Information System Center or the library of Grumman Corp located at its headquarters in Bethpage, Long Island, New York. The library has been using computerized systems for information retrieval since the mid 1960s. In the 1970s, the company added Dialog, Orbit and BRS as they were introduced into the marketplace. Other databanks accessed include Aerospace Online, Commerce Business Daily and Budget Track. The library fields queries from Grumman offices, subsidiaries and plants located throughout the U.S. In terms of databank usage, Dialog is the most popular, followed the Defense Research Development Test & Evaluation Online System with Nexis/Lexis in the third place. Having access to numerous databases allows Grumman to get a wide variety of information.
