Abstract

The article presents information about several online information resources and online databases. Dow Jones News/Retrieval has been expanding from its original investment/ finance focus for the past decade. Its latest database addition is a big one, Dun's Market Identifiers (DMI), from Dun & Bradstreet Corp. DMI is one of the key databases for company research, especially for medium and small businesses. The TRW file is a new wrinkle for Dialog, since it is the first database on Dialog that specializes in business credit information. TRW is, along with Dun & Bradstreet, one of the two largest credit information companies in the U.S. TRW Business Credit Profiles has payment histories for 25 million U.S. companies, but its use is not limited to credit checks. a 1992 debut on Dialog. The American Business Directory provides name, address, product line, sales and number of employees for 11 million U.S. organizations, including schools, churches and government bodies as well as businesses. The database is derived from the nation's telephone books, supplemented by telephone calls for verification. It is the successor to the venerable TRINET company databases.
