Public Participation in Decisions Relating to the Environmental Management of Ministry of Defence Sites.

This chapter presents the experience of the British Ministry of Defence (MOD) with public participation in environmental matters. The ministry is developing its experience by using a stakeholder dialogue to resolve some environmental problems and participates as a stakeholder in national dialogues. This experience has helped stakeholders to perceive MOD as an open organization willing to discusses environmental issues. The effect of this is to give the department a human face and identifies a person to whom concerns may be addressed.
