Abstract
- This article reports on the appointment of Lawrence H. Summers as U.S. Department of the Treasury Secretary to succeed Robert Rubin. The May 1999 Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit meeting will serve as his debut. Summers and Rubin are fiscal conservatives, free-market internationalists, and public officers who work in harmony with Federal Reserve Board chairman Alan Greenspan.
