Abstract

This article examines challenges facing the textile industry in Hong Kong, China as of September 2005. The world of textile business is bipolarized into a group confident of the limitless economic growth of China on the one side, and a group that suspects business risks with China and considers diversifying investments into other Asian countries on the other. With a special historic background, business persons in Hong Kong tend to take the same views of both groups. With the entry into the quota-free age, the world has taken another step toward the free trade system. Theoretically, it was anticipated that China would be the one and only winner. Basically, this is correct. Nevertheless, it is inconceivable to allow a single country to be the one and only winner in any case.
