Abstract

The author presents advice on how to build the skills, experience and connections to get a dream job in the solar energy sector. Factors that should be considered when planning to have a solar career are the level of pay and the number of work hours in the industry. Informational interviews are a great way to gather more in formation about a particular job in the solar sector. Training and volunteer work are good ways to develop skills and explore a career in the solar field with low risk. The process of becoming known for one's expertise involves skills building and networking. One needs also to earn any certifications that might apply to one's field of interest. People interested in solar electric installation need to earn Photovoltaic Installer Certification from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners.
