Abstract

This article highlights the Association of Information and Dissemination Centers Fall Meeting at the Georgetown Marbury House, Washington, D.C., from September 16 through 18, 1984. ASIDIC President David Grooms, of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, introduced a well-balanced program of presented papers and small workshops, which gave attendees the opportunity to explore industry trends, track new technology, and hash over areas of concern. Bettie Steiger, vice president of information resources for Reference Technology Inc., explained the firm's pioneering work in laser optic information technology and hailed the laser disk as the next level of searching over microfiche. In other presentations, Scott Kostenbauder of IBM discussed information retrieval methods at Big Blue. Hardev Dugal, of the Institute of Paper Chemistry, explained their small technical database and how it is used.
